LWPTSA Delegates Shape State PTA Platform at Legislative Assembly
Last month, LWPTSA delegates participated in the 47th annual WSPTA Legislative Assembly. Following robust debate, the delegates voted to add Restoring funding for education and wrap-around supports to WSPTA's 2026 legislative priorities. Delegates also approved a new principle opposing school vouchers and adopted a new resolution regarding the Rights and Services for Immigrant Children and Youth. The new legislative platform will guide WSPTA’s advocacy efforts with state lawmakers over the next two years. For an in-depth summary of the adopted platform, please visit the LWPTSA website. Read the full recap soon on WSPTA’s website.

Why and How Do We Advocate?
Advocacy is key to ensuring all students receive equitable resources and opportunities. By using our collective voice, we influence decisions that shape education at every level.
Why We Advocate:
- Ensure equity and access for all students.
- Influence policies impacting education and student well-being.
- Drive change for issues like school funding, safety and mental health services.
How to Advocate:
- School Level: Get involved with your school’s PTA to address local needs, such as funding, safety and inclusive practices.
- Council Level (LWPTSA): Collaborate with the LWPTSA Council on district-wide initiatives. Work with other PTAs to influence district policies and advocate for all students in Lake Washington School District.
- State Level (Washington State PTA): Join WSPTA efforts to advocate for state policies affecting education. Attend Legislative Assembly, Focus Day, and participate in discussions that impact all students in Washington.
